June was off to a rockin’ start with the return of a Club favorite “Rockin’ Pianos” on June 2. This was not a fundraiser, but a thank you to our supportive Club members. Over 130 members turned out for the fun evening. Doug Staley, Executive Director of The Child Protection Center, and Edwardo Gloria, CEO of Family Haven, were there to each receive a $5000 grant for their organizations, which do so much to support children and families in our community. After sharing stories, they and their spouses were our guests for dinner and the entertaining show.

So far in 2022, we have donated over $50,000 to thirteen different organizations, not including The Venice Youth Boating Association. As of the end of May, we are at 95% of our fundraising goal thanks to you.

In the late spring, a $2500 grant was given to Venice Area Mobile Meals. This is an all volunteer organization providing meals to anyone in the Greater Venice area unable to prepare a meal due to a mental or physical disability. The meals are available six days a week, 52 weeks a year, holidays included. They are not associated with Meals on Wheels, and they do not receive any financial funding or support from any government entity.

A $5000 grant was made to The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), formerly the Mental Health Community Center. This organization provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. Family Support Groups are currently held in Venice two days a week. They will soon be held three days a week.

Just a heads up; due to Clubhouse renovations throughout the remainder of the year, we chose to cancel our October Blues Bistro night. Our next event at the Club will be our Annual Donor Appreciation on Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Sunset Room.

I would like to make a correction to my TWIG info of last month. This wonderful organization supports children who are in foster care, not homeless. Thanks to all the caring individuals we have in our Venice community!

With sincere appreciation,
Noni Lavelle
