Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation
From VYC Currents - December 2022
Beyond the upcoming holidays, we have so much to celebrate. The VYCCF committee has worked diligently this past fiscal year, and has reaped outstanding benefits. Our goal was to raise $125,000 from Nov. 1, 2021 to Oct. 31, 2022. We have donated $127,000 during this year, and have reached the milestone of having donated $1,000,573 since our inception in 2010. WOW!
We had an enthusiastic crowd of over 75 members at our annual Donor Appreciation Evening on Nov. 3. Our guests were from The Haven, a longtime Sarasota residential program for adults and children with disabilities. They are in the process of opening a facility right here in Venice. Alison Thomas, COO, and Becky Forest, VP of Adult Services in the new Venice location, were with us, along with Halley Peilot, Diector of Development. They shared The Haven’s mission with us. We gave them a grant in July.
We also had guests from First Step of Sarasota. They work with the Student Assistance Program, which supports helping troubled youth at Venice High School. We presented a $5,000 grant to Mounira Ragsdale, Chief Administrative Officer, and Natalie Chang, Director of Development. They shared their progress and successes, not only at Venice High School, but at other area high schools.
Dave Slaman, Chair of the Ride For A Better Community, has reported sponsorships are already being received. He has established a goal of $80,000. The registration website is up and running. This has become our main fundraiser thanks to all of you. Dave is working with our Club manager to negotiate a contribution of food from SYSCO. The MCJROTC will once again assist on the day of the ride. Please mark your calendars for this year’s sixth annual ride on Feb. 19.
Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy, and festive holiday season! See you at the Club!
With sincere appreciation,
Noni Lavelle
