Spring has sprung, flowers are blooming, and life is good! Thanks to the generosity of so many, our charitable giving continues to flourish! We made a $5000 grant presentation to Family Promise in March. Their mission is “To provide housing support to children and their families in South Sarasota County.” Our local office is an affiliate of Family Promise National based in New Jersey. Since the organization's inception in the 1980s, it has expanded across the country with over 200 separate affiliates. Our grant was presented at the Day Center Playground which VYCCF funded several years ago as a signature project.

Locally, Family Promise of South Sarasota County exists to serve families experiencing housing crises in Englewood, North Port, Venice, Nokomis, and Osprey. Since its opening in 2015, it has served hundreds of local families. Did you know that one in every 18 students in Sarasota County has experienced homelessness? About 50% of those students are in South Sarasota County! Venice High School had the highest per capita population of homeless students in 2017. In 2018 and 2019, that shifted to North Port High school. Sad, but true.

A visit to Southeastern Guide Dogs in Bradenton, another of our grant recipients, was scheduled for April 26. Visitors will travel by car to see the dogs in action and the beautiful facility where they train prior to their individual assignments.

Thanks to the collective generosity of the VYC membership and our many supporters. We will be giving grants to 19 different charities and organizations totaling $101,000 during the 2021 Grant Year. Our entire committee wishes to thank you for this, and hopes your support continues. Please visit our website at www.VYCCF.com We Chart a Course to a Better Community!

With sincere appreciation,
