Welcome to gusty March, everyone!

This column is written a month in advance, but if I had a crystal ball, the story about our Fourth Annual Ride For A Better Community would go like this: On a beautiful, crisp, sun shiny morning, the bike ride went off seamlessly with over 100 riders. All the riders, supporters, family, and friends enjoyed the ride around our beautiful Venice Island and the scrumptious pancake breakfast afterwards.

The Venice High School Junior ROTC Cadets were present to ensure the safety of our participants and assist with event logistics. They were very appreciative of the $1,000 grant we presented to them for their youth team building project at the high school.

Funds raised at press time were more than $35,000, but I know additional funds will be received until the day of the ride. We hope to exceed last year’s $48,000 in total funds raised.We want to say a special Thank You to the event sponsors whose names can be seen on this page.

Our committee is currently determining who will be the recipients of our 2021 grants. At present we are budgeting for nine $5,000 grants and two “signature” projects of $10,000 each. These will be based on specific needs in our community and will be announced as we move through the year.

We want to heartily thank all of our generous donors and supporters who make this community outreach possible! Finally, we would like to welcome Debbie Staudt to our VYCCF Committee! She is a long standing VYC member, and currently the top fundraiser for the Ride for a Better Community! Welcome and thank you!
