Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation

Greetings to all in this busy month of February!
First let me fill you in on the VYCCF’s end-of-year happenings: In early December, a $5,000 grant presentation was made to Big Brothers Big Sisters. As always, this fine organization was most appreciative of our support. In a thank you letter, CEO Joy Mahler wrote, “Every child deserves to grow up with love, hope, and opportunity... With your support, we are changing the perspective of children everyday by inspiring them to envision their world in a more positive light, defending their potential.” We also voted unanimously to donate $1000 to Wreaths Across America, a national program which places Christmas wreaths on fallen soldiers’ graves. This grant provided many wreaths at our Sarasota National Cemetery. What a fine tribute to these heroes!

Cheryl Cook, our ambassador to All Faiths Food Bank (AFFB), reports that we will no longer have a VYC team date each month. However, you may sign up individually to volunteer at any time by contacting Victoria at AFFB ; call 941-549-8156. Please identify yourself as a Venice Yacht Club member and the training procedure will be waived. Take a fellow member along with you, and help out at this important organization which helps so many in need.

Barbara Price, a long time VYC member, was welcomed to our committee in late 2020. Welcome, Barbara, and thank you for your interest and support!

I hope you read Chair Dave Slaman’s rousing article in the January Currents. It is a strong “call to action“ for everyone to involve themselves in some way to support our “Ride For A Better Community” on Sunday, Feb. 21. Thank you once again for the strong support for the 2020 ride! Check in at the VYC website and see how you can contribute. We are aiming for spectacular success with this ride! We hope it will be just the first of our fabulous fundraisers planned for 2021! Also, look for the latest issue of Venice Lifestyle that has a promotional article on our annual bike ride!
