Happy April, everyone!
Please refer to the first paragraph of my March Currents article. My wish for the 4th Annual Ride For A Better Community was right on! I will amend it by saying as I biked from Golden Beach, the weather was “crisp” equating to 58 degrees. I also did not predict the “wind” which was like no other all week! We had 140 riders that morning and a huge turnout of supporters, family, and friends. Thanks to each of you, we raised $54,139.09!!!! Wow! That is 108% of our goal! This is No April Fools! Tina Shaheen was our Top Rider raising $2,500. “Best of Boat Worlds” was the Top Team raising $4,450!! Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated!

The Venice High School Junior ROTC Cadets were on the trail to guide us, and they helped at the Club to serve our delicious breakfast. They were presented with a $1,000 grant for their obstacle course/youth team building project. Also, a $5,000 grant was presented to Joyce Scott of “Our Mother’s House.” Carl Galanti was a one-man team for this charity!

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, April 22, at 6:00 p.m. for our Jazz Under The Stars event. Featured entertainment will be Bill Buchman and his “Art of Jazz” combo with singer Synia Carroll. Come prepared to carry some “spirits” away at the Wine Grab. We will also have guest speakers from TWIG and the Student Assistance Program which are our two “signature” organizations; each will receive a $10,000 grant this year, in addition to nine other $5,000 grants to selected charities.
