Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation
From VYC Currents - November 2019
How could November be here already? The VYCCF has had a busy several weeks with much activity and giving! Where to begin?
A $5,000 grant was awarded to the Venice Senior Friendship Center in late August. The grant will support programs and facility improvements to the “Caregiving Place.” This is home to an adult day program for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia, many of whom are veterans who have served our country. It also supports the families dealing with loved ones who have these debilitating illnesses.
In mid-September, Children First was awarded the remaining $2,500 of its grant. In the February Currents I highlighted this amazing, private, non-profit organization that serves over 600 of Sarasota County's most vulnerable children, birth to five years of age.
On Sept. 24, a $5,000 grant was awarded to Family Promise. Their mission is “to serve families with children in South Sarasota County with a sudden need for temporary housing.” At least thirteen congregations in our community provide overnight lodging, meals, and opportunities for fellowship. The organization has a Day Center, a professional staff, and a van for transporting families. Family Promise of South Sarasota County is part of a nationwide network of over 211 affiliates that touch the lives of 53,000 homeless family members each year. Wow!
They will hold their third annual Dream Walk on Saturday, Nov. 9. Please register to walk or donate at www.FamilyPromiseSSC.org
On Friday, Oct. 4, a $3,829 grant was presented to the Library Foundation for Sarasota County at the Jacaranda Library. It will be for another Creation Station. They are located at all county libraries as well as online.
At the Blues Bistro on Saturday, Oct. 5, exciting times were had and the grants flowed: Our Mother’s House was awarded $5,000 accepted by Joyce Scott, Executive Director. The Special Ops Warrior Foundation and VYBA were each awarded $5,000.
The Twig was the featured charity at last month’s enjoyable and successful Ladies Night Out. This fine organization offers free clothing and shoes to children in foster care. A grant of $1,000 was awarded to them from the VYCCF. More information may be found at www.thetwigcares.com
Please join us for Donor Appreciation Night on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 5:30 p.m. If you have not already made a donation to VYCCF this year, please consider doing so soon!
With sincere appreciation,
Noni Lavelle
