Fellow Members,
I am pleased to report that your Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation Committee made the following grant awards at our meeting on May 20:

Venice Theatre:
  student scholarship assistance $1,000
VYBA:
  scholarships for needy children $500
SKY Family YMCA:
  low income family scholarships $1,500
Pregnancy Care Center:
  car seats, intermediate size $750
Englewood Community Care:
  patient chairs $450
Lighthouse of Manasota:
  desktop PCs for visually impaired $1,400
Rotary Futures College Resource Center:
  table for 10 at yearly fund raiser $1,500
Our Mother’s House:
  credit counseling for residents $500
Center for Building Hope:
  family members to attend camp for children with cancer $500
Interfaith Outreach:
  sack lunches for Center of Hope $1,000
Safe Place & Rape Crisis Center:
  emergency center operating expenses $1,500
Mental Health Community Centers:
  services to adults with mental illness $500
Laurel Civic Association:
  homework assistance program (program assistants) $2,000
Total: $13,100

I am also pleased to report that our Foundation received a special $5,000 grant from a club member to establish the Venice Community Support Fund. This fund will be restricted to making grants to those groups within the Venice community that make our community more enjoyable and a place where we are proud to live. It is likely that some of the grant recipients from these funds will be organizations that previously were included in the general operating budget. The Yacht Club Board and our Committee felt it would be more appropriate to have gifts that are charitable in nature be handled through the VYCCF. This is a new fund, and our Committee will discuss how best to administer the fund and process grants.
