Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation
From VYC Currents - January 2015
Fellow Members,
Our Yacht Club Foundation's second grant cycle ended on October 31, 2014. We received 14 grant applications totaling $24,056.
The Foundation policy is to award 80% of our unrestricted donations. The other 20% is added to our endowment fund. This grant cycle we had $11,800 available for grants. This is in addition to the $18,000 we have raised and pledged to the Fund for Excellence for the Venice Performing Arts Center.
I am pleased to report that the Committee made the following grant awards:
Center for Building Hope
HealingHearts Bereavement Camp $500
Southeastern Guide Dogs
Paws for Patriots Program $1,500
Our Mother's House
10 participant packets for skills development $960
Family Promise
Cargo trailer $1,999
Child Protection Center
Police security $750
Venice Area Pregnancy Care
Car seats, intermediate size $500
Good Samaritan Pharmacy
Publicity $500
Children First
At-risk children's breakfasts, lunches, and snacks $2,000
Englewood Community Clinic
Work table and stools $800
State College of Fla. Foundation
Veteran's Endowed Scholarship Fund $500
VYBA
Scholarship $500
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Juvenile Justice Mentoring Initiative $1,200
Total $11,709
We currently have approximately $55,000 in our endowment fund invested with the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Rather than build up the endowment indefinitely, we are investigating whether to establish a scholarship program to use the income, and/or gains in the endowment, to fund an annual scholarship program. We will be making a report and recommendation to the Yacht Club Board of Directors after further investigation and discussion.
Please remember the Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation when you are considering your year-end charitable giving. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible if you itemize your deductions.
Respectfully submitted,
