Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation
From VYC Currents - June 2013
Fellow Members,
AUCTION, AUCTION, AUCTION! Please join the fun at the June 15 “Build a Truck – Feed the Hungry” launch party sponsored by Florida Shores Bank and hosted by the Tiki Committee and our Charitable Foundation. It is bound to be the event of the year, incorporating the main dining room for a silent auction and your dining pleasure, and the Tiki area for a live auction and dancing with a new band to the VYC, Nothing But Trouble. Great auction items are being offered, including scrumptious meals at many fine local restaurants, challenging golf at many beautiful area courses, romantic evening cruises in nearby waters and many other surprises. You may also purchase VYC naming rights to various parts of the “Build a Truck – Feed the Hungry” mobile produce pantry, Sprout. The cause is good. We just need your participation to make a difference in addressing the very serious hunger problem in our community.
Our donation of the mobile produce pantry, Sprout, to All Faiths Food Bank will provide over 100 in-need families with nutritious food each day. Children that now go to bed hungry will be well fed. That is something we can all be proud to support. We are pleased to be in partnership with Gulf Coast Community Foundation in this effort.
Our Charitable Foundation is making a splash in the community. We were mentioned in the Herald Tribune and the Venice Gondolier twice in April, and we received a record 30 grant applications for the spring grant cycle requesting about $70,000. That is more than double the number of grant applications received in any previous cycle. Unfortunately, we can not fund all these applications, but we can make a dent in the need. Our community now recognizes the Venice Yacht Club as a major partner in charitable giving and making an improvement to the communities where our members live.
Thank you to all our members supporting the fund raising efforts of the Charitable Foundation. Please look at the VYC web site home page to monitor our progress against our 2013 fund raising goal of $100,000. And importantly, please thank those members wearing the Captain’s Circle lapel pin for helping to make a difference in our community
