On October 13, the Club hosted “Ladies Night Out,” a fun and highly successful fashion show to benefit cancer awareness and treatment. In conjunction with this worthwhile event, the Foundation made a grant to the Cancer Support Community. This organization provides cancer survivors with emotional, educational and psychological support. They have numerous monthly meetings and programs providing Venice residents with much needed compassion and educational services. We are pleased to support such a worthwhile, local initiative.

In November, we again commemorate our veterans and active military. This year, the committee authorized a grant to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Their mission is to provide the children of troops killed in the line of duty the college education their fallen parent would have wanted for them.

Their headquarters is located in Tampa and all Venice children qualify for assistance. Fortunately, no local families have needed their support as yet but as Commodore Bills said to us during our deliberations... “All our military are local, no matter where they are.” Clearly, no child should be denied a college education because a mother or father gave their life in defense of our freedom. Our donors can be justly proud that their contributions support such a wonderful initiative. We now turn our attention to 2012. The Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation has become well known throughout the community and we receive many inquires each month. Very soon, you will be receiving a donor card in the mail. This year, our members will be able to donate through their club account – just check the appropriate box on the card, fill in an amount and return. We have also arranged for secure credit card donations through the Gulf Coast Foundation website. Go to www.gulfcoastcf.org, click on the Give Now icon on the top right side of the screen and then select Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation from the drop down list.

A special thanks to our Founders Club members. Founders will be recognized in a permanent display in the newly remodeled Club. There is still time to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity through December 31, 2011. You and your family will surely feel a sense of pride each time you visit the club for years to come.

Please consider joining us again this year and help demonstrate to the community that VYC is the place for “Good Times and Good Works.” Remember, we never stand taller than when we stoop down to help those who have fallen.
