As surprising as it sounds, the Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation celebrates its one year anniversary this month. It’s been a year filled with hard work but even more satisfaction. Your committee continues their tireless efforts to assure that the Foundation supports the less fortunate in our community and is something our members can be proud of.

I’m constantly amazed at the generosity of our membership. Each month, our donor list grows. As you can see from the list at left, our members have dug deep to help those less fortunate. Some members have made multiple donations, some have directed gifts to the Foundation in memory of loved ones who have passed, others have donated appreciated stock and some have even told their friends to donate to the Foundation in lieu of gifts for birthdays and anniversaries.

As a result, we have collected over $65,000 in donations in this relatively short time. On behalf of our donors, we have supported our veterans and military families, assisted those in our community to achieve home ownership, supported youth boating and made sure our children have a safe place to go after school. And that’s just the beginning. Many local charities have learned about the good work we are doing. We have several local grant requests currently under review including the Senior Friendship Centers, the Rotary Futures Program, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the Child Protection Center – Supervised Visitation Program, among many others.

Not only do we support the community in a meaningful way, our charitable activities are generating positive feedback throughout the area. We have been featured multiple times in both local newspapers. Scores of members and non-members alike have praised the Venice Yacht Club for supporting the community through its Foundation.

As I mention each month, it’s very easy to donate and become part of this worthwhile initiative. The Foundation has a dedicated mailbox at the Club. Just write a check, put Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation on the envelope and send it to the Club or give it to the receptionist and it will find its way to us. To make contributing even more convenient, we have arranged for secure credit card donations through the Gulf Coast Foundation website. Go to www.gulfcoastcf.org, click on the Give Now icon on the top right side of the screen and then select Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation from the drop down list. It’s that easy.
